James Howlett was born in 1882 in Alberta, Canada. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Howlett, a well to do family who had made it big in the copper industry. For the most part his childhood was a happy one, but circumstances with his childhood friends left a a bad mark on him. When his father was murdered in his teenage years, James's powers first manifested and his claws extended from his hands. He attacked his father's murderer and killed him. Realizing what he had done, he fled from his home and there began to start of his journeys. In order to hide his identity, he took the name Logan, which was in fact the surname of the man who killed his father. Over the course of his travels he went all over Canada, eventually joining up with the Canadian Army during the first World War.

During World War II, Logan once again fought for the Canadian Special Forces. For a time he even worked alongside Captain America, a super soldier from the United States. The two become close friends and fought several battles together, at one time even rescuing a young Erik Lensherr (who would later become Magneto). When they discovered that the super soldier serum was killing Captain America, the two worked together to shut down the program permanently, so no one else would have to go through the same process. In order to preserve his life, Captain America was placed in cryogenic stasis until a cure could be found. Though no scientist, Wolverine kept in close contact with SHIELD to keep track of his old friend for the day he could be revived.

Once again a loner, he continued his travels, spending some time in China and Japan and other parts of the world before eventually getting involved with the CIA and after that, the Vietnam War. During that time he worked with a black ops group called Team X, composed of Sabertooth and other mutants. He did this for several years, up until shortly before X-Men Evolution begins. It was because of Wolverine's abilities that he was taken to be a part of the Weapon X project by the Canadian government. It's unknown whether Logan was forced into it or did so willingly, as his memories from around that time are now fractured. But he underwent a painful procedure to have adamantium coated over all of his bones. The process was mind blowingly painful and a chip was installed in his brain in the process. He went crazy, destroyed the lab and killed many of the scientists and fled into the wilderness.

He was found abandoned in the snow by hunters who brought him to society. Violent and angry, he soon got involved in cage matches and gained a reputation as "Wild Man". He soon attracted the attention of Professor Xavier, who had begun the formation of the X-Men with his first member, Ororo Munroe. After escaping incarceration, Wolverine was confronted by Xavier and Magneto, both vying to get them on their side. When it came down to choosing Magneto's war against humans or Xavier making peace, Wolverine concluded that he'd had enough war and he never thought of himself as any better than anyone else. So he chose to work with Xavier, becoming the second X-Men.

For awhile he and Storm worked as partners until Xavier began looking for young mutants to train. Their first was Scott, an orphan with the ability to fire optic blasts. Though cold to him at first, Logan soon came around to admiring his optimism and dedication. Soon after they found Jean Grey when her telekinetic powers went out of control. Following her was Kurt, arrived from Germany and Kitty, from Illinois. Storm's nephew Spyke joined the team and eventually, Rogue came around to become one of the X-Men too. Though a team full of rookies, Logan played a crucial role in their training, with his methods usually being dangerous and severe to the point that the team was often terrified of training with him. They even chose a summer wilderness survival camp as being a better alternative to his training.

Over the course of their conflicts with the Brotherhood and Magneto, Wolverine was called back to the site of the Weapon X program where he learned fragments of his past and about the chip in his head. Thanks to the help of Kitty and Kurt, he was able to break free of control and return to the X-Men. Over the course of the next year, after a conflict with Magneto on Asteroid M, the school is expanded with an extended group of students to train. Later he discovers that Magneto has found the device used to create Captain America and intends to use it for himself. Reluctantly he takes Rogue and Kurt along on a mission to destroy it. At the last minute, Kurt fails to destroy it and spares Magneto. Though the device ends up destroyed, Magneto chooses to spare the three of them because of Kurt's own mercy. The three are allowed to escape.

Later that year Wolverine is captured by Trask and used to test his new Sentinel program to see how well they can deal with mutants. In the process, he is captured by the government and the X-Men and Brotherhood are exposed as mutants on national television. He is held in Area 51 until the remaining free X-Men (with a tip from SHIELD's Nick Fury) release him. At that point, with Xavier still missing, the group goes into hiding. When they're spotted by the military, Wolverine is eager to take them. However Scott steps up and declares that they won't be killing anyone. Furious and angry, Wolverine goes his separate way while the remaining team takes on the military. He goes solo for awhile, trying to track down Xavier. When it turns out that the others manage to find him on their own, he comes back to the team and rejoins.

As the mutants deal with being outed in public, a villain named Mesmero began his efforts towards releasing Apocalypse. Later, Rogue's friend Risty is exposed to be Mystique, who had also been Rogue's adoptive mother. When Rogue's psyches and mental state become too much for her to handle, Logan takes charge in trying to bring her to sense. Rather than take her down by force, he talks her down and convinces her to take control. When she finally does and passes out, Logan stays at her bedside continuously until she wakes up again. Not long after, Wolverine is again visited by Nick Fury. He discovers that before the Weapon X program, the terrorist organization HYDRA managed to steal Wolverine's DNA and created a female clone of him, X-23. Despite being only twelve and recently infused with adamantium, she escaped their custody and raided a SHIELD lab and is now eager for revenge on Wolverine, who she blames for his creation. The two eventually have to face off, but in the end Logan is able to get through to her and something of a bond is formed. However, she is forced to flee when SHIELD shows up to collect her, leaving Logan to speculate her fate.

Soon after, Rogue fell under the control of Mesmero and was used to absorb the power of every X-Men so that she could awaken Apocalypse. Wolverine was forced to reluctantly team up with Sabertooth and Gambit to track her down, all the way to Tibet to try and stop Mesmero. In the end, they arrived too late and despite the assembled forced of the X-Men and Magneto's acolytes, they stood no chance against Apocalypse and were taken down by a single blast. While Apocalypse began to set his plans in motion, the X-Men had to bide their time waiting for a way to strike back. During that time, Wolverine was kidnapped by Omega Red, but managed to escape into the forest where he ran into X-23. She was on a mission to take down Madame Hydra, who was responsible for her creation. In the end it appeared she was killed, but after catching her scent, Wolverine concluded she was still alive and on the run still.

Soon after, the time came for a confrontation with Apocalypse, where Xavier and Storm went to try and negotiate a truce of some sort. However, their attempts failed and the two were seemingly killed in the process. With the X-Men as the last line of defense, Wolverine has begun calling in any mutant they can to join the fight, while working with SHIELD, and coming up with a plan to neutralize Apocalypse's powers.

Personality: At first sight, Logan is a gruff loner that prefers to do things his own way and not get involved in other people's problems. With a tortured past he has only fragmented memories of, he doesn't feel like he belongs anywhere, even among other mutants. This is because, as far as he's concerned, he is a monster and it's best that others aren't around him. He knows that the only thing he's ever been good at is killing. In spite of that, he doesn't brood over it or let himself feel sorry about it. He's accepted who he is and deals with it his own way. To some extent, he actually enjoys the lifestyle laid out for him, as it lets him indulge in his violent tendencies. This is why even when not working with the X-Men, he's known to work with SHIELD and Department H, even if his relationship with both organizations is not entirely positive due to their tendencies to sometimes manipulate him.

In spite of being a killer, Logan is a good man at his core. Shortly after escaping from Weapon X, with a big hole in his memories, he was approached by both Magneto and Xavier to join one of their two sides. In the end, Wolverine admitted he didn't think himself any better than any other person and wasn't interested in starting a war, having experienced plenty already. Despite some conflicts he had with the younger team, he developed a solid bond with the other mutants, especially the new recruit Rogue, who looked up to him as a kind of mentor due to her own feelings of isolation, even among other mutants. Even Kitty, his complete opposite, was able to form a pretty solid bond with him. Consequently it's why he went against SHIELD in aiding X-23 escape, rather than turn over his clone to them for whatever they intended to do with her.

Good or not, Logan doesn't 'play nice' and his way of dealing with people is blunt and often rude. Though his role as leader has forced him to take a step back and be careful about what he says and does, it doesn't change his attitude towards others. He's suspicious of those outside his immediate team and earning his trust is no easy task, as many have discovered themselves. He's disrespectful to others and forceful and doesn't tend to pay much respect to them, often seen with his dealings with SHIELD. Although he's improved overall, he sometimes chafes against being ordered around, especially when Scott decided to approach the military differently than he would.

For all his troubles, Logan does have his mischievous side. Those in the Danger Room need always be wary when Wolverine is around, lest he increase the program difficulty to somewhere more along his own level of skill. He has a dry sense of humor and isn't above pulling out some corny one-liners in the middle of battle. He is a comic book hero, after all. He drinks and smokes, even though his rapid regeneration significantly dampens the effects of both. The things he enjoys includes pool, stuff related to motorcycles, and a good scrap. He also enjoys the company of women and will blatantly flirt with any woman who catches his eye, even if it turns out she's already dating some other guy (but at least Jean is too young for him!)

Overall, Logan is a strange combination of wild and irrational with a strong sense of honor. Although squarely on the side of good, he doesn't hesitate to kill and usually one in favor of a more permanent solution when dealing with foes. However his current role as a mentor and sometimes leader has him keeping himself on a tight leash and playing things the way Professor Xavier would expect. However, when it comes down to it, Wolverine is more interested in permanent solutions. If he had his way, he'd just off Magneto and consider the impending war something he no longer needs to be concerned about.

Strengths:

Physical: Logan is a mutant, meaning that somewhere in his adolescence he manifested a special ability. In his case, it was a rapid healing factor that allowed him to quickly regenerate from any wound or ailment. Along with that was three extra bone claws that protruded from his wrists, ripping through the skin to do so. Over time his healing factor improved and most wounds would heal naturally. Not only that, but his rapid regeneration rendered him nearly impervious to the aging process. Thanks to how his rapid regeneration works, it has a secondary effect of making him physically tougher. His regeneration negates fatigue, giving him an incredible amount of stamina. It also means that his strength is increased as he does not suffer the ill effects of exertion. It also takes larger doses of toxins to have any effect on him, which also means it takes a lot of alcohol for him to actually get drunk. Separate from his regeneration, all of his senses are keener than a normal human's.

It was these qualities that made him a perfect candidate for the Weapon X product. As a result, his entire bone structure is coated in Adamantium, a nigh-indestructible artificial metal. As a result of this, his bone claws are now more like sharpened knives, capable of cutting through almost anything with few exceptions. It also makes him much more difficult to kill. Whereas originally he was just a tougher version of a normal human, his indestructible bones makes it nearly impossible to remove a body part from him. It has a secondary effect of increasing his strength. He can lift weights that would crush normal bones. He's shown tossing Sabertooth around with enough force that when throwing him into a solid looking tree, it snaps the tree in two.

Beyond that, his long life means Wolverine has had decades of experience in combat. He's served in the Canadian special forces, fought in several wars, trained in the katana in Japan, and had extensive training in the Danger Room. Though his fighting style is very visceral and violent and he prefers to use his own claws for fighting, he's proficient in the use of other weapons, whether they're for melee or firearms.

Mental: Many people would think of Wolverine as an animal, simple minded and stubborn. In part, that's right, but Wolverine has a keen mind despite his outward attitude. His experiences make him a capable leader and he often plays this role with X-Men, usually acting as the de facto leader of the young mutants. He is also surprisingly knowledgeable. His many travels has made him fluent in several other languages and other cultures. In general he has a strong mind, seen when he was able to resist a mind control chip placed in his brain by the Weapon X program. Even when programmed to kill, he was able to use his strength of will to prevent himself from harming Kitty Pryde.

Emotional: When Logan sets his mind to something, he makes sure he gets it done. Though he may snarl his words out and be prone to getting downright violent, he is usually able to think clearly enough to keep himself from harming others, usually by seeking solitude. In the times when he's not prone to just snapping and attacking, he can be a cool and calm voice of reason. For his part, he cares a lot about the X-Men and will do all it takes to protect and help them, even if he appears outwardly gruff and distant to them.

Weaknesses:

Physical: In truth, Wolverine has few physical weaknesses. It's only compared to other mutants that he has issues. His entire fighting style is purely physical, something that is not shared with other mutants or meta humans. His claws are useless against an energy field, he has no defense against telepathic or telekinetic attacks, and he can little more than dodge or absorb energy attacks. Although he has a high tolerance for pain, he doesn't enjoy it and it it is still effective on him.

Mental: His experiences with Weapon X has shattered his mind and there's a lot about his past from around that time he doesn't remember except in fragments. This has left him volatile and combined with his own already violent nature, can prevent him from thinking clear headed. When he gets into this state, he's not likely to make the best choices. If he loses control, he can even go into a berserker-like rage.

Emotional: For all his physical strengths, Logan is a mess of emotional problems. Among them is his anger and temper, which is easy to rile up. He doesn't like to open up and prefers to be a loner when he can, keeping to himself. It's only his loyalty to Professor Xavier and the X-Men that keeps him rooted in one place, as he'd otherwise be completely shut off from people. His secretive nature leads to a gruff kind of attitude that's off putting to people. Combine this with an already rude attitude that includes growling at people, smoking, and boozing and you have the makings of a very unfriendly man.

First Person: Q&A Please

Third Person: Blood. His body was covered in it. By now there was no difference in the blood that sprang from the cultists and his own spilled blood. Yet for as much as he was covered in it, there was not a single scratch or bruise on his body. His own healing factor had already taken care of all that, leaving only six small injuries left on his body. The sliced skin where his adamantium claws pierced through the flesh. They too were coated with blood, though in this case, most definitely not his own. With the distinct sound of a snikt, he slid them back into his hand. The punctured skin quickly sealed itself back up again, leaving no trace of the metal blades that were underneath his skin.

"Look at yourself now," he said to himself. "Caught up in somebody else's war again."

Not much was left from his clothes now, after that battle with one of the elites. Convenient clothing damage left him shirtless with the torn remains of the pants he wore into this mess. But as luck would have it, a bent cigar was in his pocket. He managed to maneuver it out and then bend it back into shape, only realizing he didn't have a light. But he had his claws. And he had stone. A little spark would be all he needed. With his strength already returned, he rose to his feet with a groan and started to extend a single claw as he kicked over the rocks on the ground to look for something suitable.

And then an arrow whizzed by, planting itself in his shoulder. He dropped the cigar out of his mouth in surprise and fell back a step, focusing his gaze on the cultist archer that fired on him. Furious and in pain, he tightened his jaw and ripped the arrow out. As the began to close, Wolverine extended his remaining claws as he started stepping towards the foe, slashing an arrow out of the air as it came flying towards him. He was pissed.

"Bub, you're going to wish you didn't do that."
