[She'd hesitated then, and she remembers him demanding her to attack him.]

You asked me to, after all. But I hope it never comes to that again. I can't imagine you would ever get used to being on the receiving end of my lightning. [It's happened to him before, after all.]

"Yeah." Okay. It was a good point. That snuck around and struck home, because... she knew that wasn't how X-Men did things. Although a rebellious part of her suggested how rich that was, coming from Wolverine, she knew he was right. "But... a lot of the stuff that went on between us..." Rogue looked down. "It doesn't get more personal."

And she was ashamed of that, wounded by that, didn't want to fall so far in Logan's eyes as she had fallen in her own.

[snikting]

There's a lot of things I'd like to not get used to.

[Her lightning was one of them. So was accidentally rolling on top of his wings in his sleep.]

[snikting]

"Yeah."

With his elbows rested on his knees, he dangled the bottle beneath him and span it around. There was one image frozen in his mind. Dream or not, he owed it to himself to know whether it was real or not. Even though he was pretty sure he knew the answer already.

"One of the times I woke up. I wasn't thinkin' straight. An' I attacked the first person I saw." He turned his head to catch her reaction. You.

He was well aware of just how rich it was. As rich as Xavier sending him to try and talk sense into Spyke. Or Logan teaching meditation to rambunctious teenagers.

"I get that, kid. Those are the worst kinds of people to get tangled up with. I ain't even sayin' you did anything wrong. I wasn't half as smart as you are when I was your age. But the Professor ain't here. It's my job to keep this team together, even if I ain't the guy I'd put in charge of it."

If Rogue hadn't just been reminded how important his memories were to Logan, she might have been tempted to try to brush this aside - it wasn't her usual method of dealing with such things, but she didn't want Logan to have to deal with this on top of so many other things. But she knew how important it was to separate truth from delusion. And it wasn't as if she could hide her flinch.

Rogue darted a glance to him and managed a quick, tentative smile, "You've got one mean right hook."

The words were out before she could even think, "What team, Logan? It's you, me, and Storm in a world where if ya don't have powers, you're the odd one out. How is that a team?"

[ Action, October 16th ]

[snikting]

To that, he grunted. He knew where she was coming from. The X-Men hadn't exactly been a consistent 'team' in Luceti. "We ain't just a team because we're mutants, kid. It sure ain't why I joined up. Ya just need two people or more who all want the same thing. That's it."

[snikting]

"It could've killed ya."

But it didn't. She wouldn't be here if it had. It wasn't hard to guess how exactly she avoided certain death. She did it the same way he did. For that, he could be relieved.

She didn't really have anything to say to that. She couldn't, wouldn't deny this family, wouldn't deny that Logan had the right to be protective - and the responsibility to be watchful.

Rogue stared resolutely at the carpet, the fight gone out of her, leaving only shame and guilt and misery twisting around inside her stomach. "I'm sorry I let ya down."

[touchofrogue]

Rogue valiantly resisted the urge to touch the wound that still gave her phantom pain, "So could a lotta things."

[ Action, October 16th ]

[snikting]

"There ain't no need for apologizing." He sighed as he leaned back into his seat. Trying to guilt her was the furthest thing from what he was trying to accomplish.

"Just consider this a word of caution."

[snikting]

"Usually they ain't me."

[touchofrogue]

"Thankfully," she swallowed and glanced at him again. "But that - that wasn't you either. Not really."

"Yeah, well... caution given."

[calmbeforethe]

[She gives him a bit of a half-smile.]

Oh? Do tell. Surely none as terrible as having a sound electrocution, and living to tell the tale.

[snikting]

[Stabbing people I care about for one.]

You sure you wanna hear 'em? My war stories ain't exactly for polite conversation. Call it the peril of survivin' things most men ain't supposed to.

[snikting]

"I was still in there. That counts enough for me."

That was that. For now. Logan stood back up and took a moment to pop his neck.

"Anyway, I'm heading to the bar." It was a vague enough invitation for her to do whatever she wanted. But it was about as much of an olive branch as he would typically bestow.

I don't mind. I may not have stories like yours, Logan, but I think you would be surprised at what I've seen, myself.

[snikting]

I threw myself on a grenade once, during one of the wars. Back before I got the metal bones. Healing from that wasn't pleasant.

[touchofrogue]

She tilted her head and looked at him. "It wasn't your fault."

[ Action, October 16th ]

[touchofrogue]

She remained curled in on herself, "Yeah, all right."

[calmbeforethe]

[She frowns for a moment. Yeah, that isn't pleasant. But she did ask, so.]

I can imagine. You do love playing the reckless hero, don't you? [She smiles teasingly.]

Love don't quite describe it.

[He doesn't like it at all. But he can walk away from things other people can't. And dammit, he's got that hero thing going.]
